So the last decade was a pretty good one for music, and especially guitar music. We saw some great Guitar bands, and some great Guitarists.
But what can we look forward to in the first year of the next Decade, 2010? Well, there are some great bands that are releasing some new material. There are also more Guitar games coming out. And there is an ever increasing presence of Guitar-related websites.
Albums To Look Out For
There really are some exciting prospects there, although there aren’t many definite album releases announced by a few of those bands. Much of the bands in this list has just been talk of a new album, or rumours.
To be honest I’m most looking forward to The Strokes. They basically kicked off the last decade with Is This It, in 2001 and that album kicked off a whole generation of guitar players and guitar bands. So I hope they come along and do the same with this new album. Others I am looking forward to are The White Stripes, Kings Of Leon and Vampire Weekend. Although the most interesting albums of 2010 look like they are going to be Noel Gallaghers solo album (which I can’t wait for) and Oasis’s new album. I hope they are released at the same time, providing a great battle between the two Brothers.
Guitar Games To Look Out For
The last decade saw the rise in the popularity of the guitar in popular music and this meant that it was only inevitable that there would be a similar effect within the gaming industry. The last decade revolutionised gaming and we had some fantastic titles released; Guitar Hero, Rock Band, Rock Band : The Beatles, Guitar Hero : Aerosmith, Guitar Hero : Metallica and Guitar Hero : Van Halen. But what can we expect from the gaming industry in the 2010?
Well there are some exciting titles that have already been announced from both Rock Band and Guitar Hero. Rock Band are continuing in their similar fashion and are releasing a Green Day version of the game, where gamers will be able to play and sing to Green Day songs. However, in my opinion this signifies a step back for the game, mainly because there are only 3 instruments in the Green Day line up where there were 4 on the Beatles version. I also personally think Green Day are slightly overrated, so this could be why I am not too excited for this title.

However on the Guitar Hero front things look a lot more intriguing. Firstly they are set to release a Guitar Hero 6 this coming year and have hinted at using camera technology, such as Project Natal, in the next game. That sounds extremely promising and would be an amazingly cool game to play! But the most exciting news/rumour I heard coming from the Guitar Hero camp this year, was from Slash in and interview with Rolling Stone Magazine. In the interview Slash talked about previous titles of Aerosmith and Metallica giving the Guitar Hero series much credability, he then wen on to say, “And they’re doing a Hendrix one, which is great” Wow! Can you imagine that! Being able to play all your favourite Hendrix songs on a game just sounds like an amazing project, doesn’t it?
More From 2010
2007, 2008 and 2009 saw Gibson release a next generation robot guitar every year. So maybe 2010 will see Gibson release a fourth generation Robot Guitar with richer tones and more technology, although I’m not sure where they can really go from their last two editions.
Another thing that we can see from 2010 is a new film called Sex, Drugs and Rock n’ Roll. It tells the story of Ian Dury who was diagnosed with Polio at a young age, but who defied expectations becoming one of the pioneers of the punk movement. Ian Dury is played by Andy Serkis (Yes, that is Gollum from Lord Of The Rings) but I think that this film looks extremely good by all accounts. Check the trailer below.
So, that’s the sort of year we can look forward to. Obviously this was only a list of Guitar-related things. I am definitely going to be looking forward to the World Cup in South Africa! Come On ENGLAND!
Hope You Have a Great Year!
