Hello again everyone, hope you're all dandy. Welcome to another weekly riff. This weeks riff comes from one of my personal guitar heroes and one that I covered a few weeks back in the Hero Worship post, Justin Hawkins. It comes from The Darknesses first album, Permission To Land. It was released twice, once in 2002 and then re-released as a third single from the album in 2003. It is an instantly recognisable riff and probably the Darknesses most recognised song, reaching number 2 in the British charts. The song, of course, is that amazing[...]
Hello all, and welcome to another edition in the weekly riff feature and this one's a real classic. From a band inducted in the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame in 2006, this riff is one that every guitarist should know and want to play. Sweet Home Alabama has to be one of the most recognisable riffs in Guitar history, even though Rolling Stone Magazine didn't decide to put it on their top 100 list.
Lynyrd Skynrd formed in 1964 but didnt really enjoy mainstream success until 1973. Sweet Home Alabama was taken from their second album, Second[...]
Hello all, hope you're doing well. Now onto another weekly riff and this week a riff written by someone who was in my top 10 most inspirational guitarists post. This riff comes from a much underrated band and guitarist in my opinion. A band that have never really reached the popularity that they deserve. The band? Supergrass. The guitarist? The one and only Gaz Coombes. The riff? Diamond Hoo Ha Man!
Supergrass formed in 1993 and their first album I Should Coco was released in 1995 with critical acclaim and some quality tunes on it. Even[...]
Hello everyone hope you're all ok. It's feeling more like spring now with the sun.
This weeks riff comes from one of the best, if not the best, rock guitarists ever. And from a band that plays rock n roll harder than any other. The guitarist was Angus Young, the band AC/DC and the song Back In Black. It came from the 1980 album with the same name and was the bands first album release since the death of their singer Bon Scott. Rolling Stone Magazine placed it at 29 in the 100 greatest guitar tracks of all time. And it is one of the best[...]
Hello everyone? How was your monday?
This week's riff comes from one of the greatest guitarists on the planet, and one of the biggest bands of the late 80's. The band is Guns n Roses. The guitarist is Slash, and the riff... You've guessed it, Sweet Child O Mine. Arguably one of the greatest guitar tracks ever. Q Magazine placed it as the 6th best guitar track of all time, and I would probably say rightly so. Anyway here it is, if you don't know it already, its a riff that every guitarist should have in their catalogue.
Here's how[...]
