Alright all? How are you? Feeling Christmassy yet? I am

The other day I was going through an old Christmas album that I made and there were a few good guitar songs on there aswell so that gave me an idea for a post. What are the greatest Christmas Guitar Songs?

So here they are in no particular order. Let me know what you think, and if I’ve missed one of your favourites.

The Darkness – Christmas Time

This is one of my favourite guitar songs, let alone christmas songs. I used to love the Darkness even though a lot of people bothinto pop and rock united in hate against them. You still can’t doubt their guitaring ability in my eyes. Anyway this song jumps straight in with a few double bends, after the first verse there’s a solo! There’s not many guitar songs out there that have two solo’s in them especially one with a Snow White Double SG! Now the Darkness might not be to everyones taste running around in leotards and so on, but you have to admit this song is a Great Guitar Song! And A Great Christmas Song! So get listening and have a rockin’ Christmas.

Chuck Berry – Run Run Rudolph

Another great Christmas song! And one from Rolling Stones 6th choice as the Greatest Guitarist Of All Time! What more could you ask for from a Chrismtas song? Its an instant classic and one that always falls within my favourite Christmas songs. As a kid I always loved it as well, as it always reminded me a bit of one of the first Beatles songs I heard, Roll Over Beethoven. So I think that gives the song an extra place in my heart.

Eric Clapton – Cryin Christmas Tears

Now this was a song that I hadn’t heard until today. I have been searching around on youtube for various christmas songs by some of my favourite guitarists without much luck. Until I stumbled across this of course. This is a live performance from Eric and God knows why they call him slowhand? There was nothing slow about his solo in this song (they probably call it him because he doesn’t shred constantly) Anyway this songs a bit more bluesy for a Christmas song but it has some great guitar parts.

Trans-Siberian Orchestra – Lots Of Christmas Songs

I only came across these the other day and they are amazing! They are an orchestra who’s styles mainly use progressive rock, symphonic metal, heavy metal and classical music. How good is that! They have done several Christmas albums, covering some great classics in their style. Below is a version of Hark The Herald Angels by TSO and its great (although not the full version, sorry) Also check out O Come All Ye Faithful, thats a good one.

The Kinks – Father Christmas

This is an extremely rare and underrated Christmas song, one which never ever gets played, for reasons unknown. Its also from one of my favourite bands of the 60′s and Guitarists. There is a quick little guitar break after the first verse and then a second solo from Dave later on in the song, which is great. Just after this the song goes all quiet with just Ray singing, a really great Christmas song! The quality of the video below isn’t very good but the audio is brilliant! Enjoy.

So that’s my list of the greatest guitar Christmas songs. Please bear in mind that its my list, and I was also trying to go with a few songs that some people might not of heard before. Whilst doing this post I have came across some weird and wonderful songs that didn’t quite make the grade. From Jimi Hendrix doing Silent Night to Brian May duetting with Anita Dobson. But one of the most strange and best songs I came across was The Hives duetting with Cyndi Lauper, and their song A Christmas Duel, I suggest you check it out, it’s quite a clever song.
