Well harrow everybody and welcome to another edition of that favourite Guitar Duel! This is a feature on the blog where I put two of the worlds best guitarists and make them fight to the death. Well, not literally, but they have to fight for the readers votes. It’s kinda the same. Anyway last weeks duel of White Vs Bellamy did not result in a winner as you lot couldn’t decide between them. This weeks duel comes from two of the finest British guitarists ever. Between them they have sold over 400 million albums worldwide and have been in two of the most successful bands of the 80′s. They were both instrumental in their roles at Live Aid back in 1984, and one of them even went on to have his own tour of Wembley stadium that was packed out. Of course I’m talking about Dire Straits and Queen, and their respective guitarists, Mark Knopfler and Brian May.

Between them they have 3 songs in Rolling Stones top 100 guitar songs; Brian May with Queens, Keep Yourself Alive(31), and Mark Knopfler with Dire Straits’, Sultans Of Swing(32) and Money For Nothing (94). This is a great feat as Hendrix himself only has 3 songs in there.
Both great guitarists I’m sure you would all agree, but what I want to know is, who is the better guitarist? Technically? Passionately? Who is the better of the two?

Yeah he doesn’t take himself too seriously really. I think I read a quote from him once where he said “When you’ve got Freddie Mercury in your band, you’re lucky if anyone notices your guitar playing” – Great quote
