{ Lick That Riff! }

Hello everybody and welcome to another edition of Guitar Duel. Even though it is a day late. Last week saw Angus Young take on Kirk Hammett. Rolling Stone magazine placed Hammett 85 places higher than Young in their 100 Greatest guitarists poll, but you guys didn’t see it like that, with Young winning by with 20 votes to Hammetts 13. Woah you guys really felt passionate about that one. They were neck and neck until a few days ago.

Anyway now on to this weeks guitarists.

They come from two of the biggest British bands in Rock n Roll history and made their name throughout the British Invasion in the 60′s. They have three songs in Rolling Stones 100 Greatest Guitar Songs and one song is even placed at number four. The two bands are of course, The Who and The Kinks. Their guitar legends? Pete Townshend and Dave Davies. They were both inducted into the Rock n Roll Hall Of Fame in 1990, their first year of eligibility.

They are both amazing guitarists, and have written some of the best known riffs and guitar songs in history. But what I want to know is… Who is the better guitarist?

Pete Townshend – Bio

Born: 19 May, 1945

Started Playing: 12 Years Old

Influences: Bo Diddley, Hank Marvin, Link Wray

Early Work: The Confederates, The Detours, The High Numbers

Band That Made Him: The Who

Other Projects: Deep End, Ronnie Lane, Thunderclap Newman

Guitar: Many, Most notably Fender Stratocaster

Best Known For: My Generation, Smashing Guitars To Pieces

Guitar Accolades: Placed at 50 in Rolling Stone Magazines 100 Greatest Guitarists. Also inducted into the Rock n Roll Hall Of Fame in 1990.

Dave Davies – Bio

Born: 3 Feb, 1947

Started Playing: Circa. 15/16

Influences: Little Richard, Music Hall

Early Work: Ravens

Band That Made Him: The Kinks

Other Projects: Solo Work

Guitar: Gibson Les Paul, Gibson “prototype” V

Best Known For: You Really Got Me, countless other guitar songs

Guitar Accolades: Placed at 88 in Rolling Stone Magazines 100 Greatest Guitarists. Also Inducted into the Rock n Roll Hall Of Fame in 1990.

Now you’ve heard a little bit more about them maybe it is easier to cast a vote. Who is the better guitarist? Who’s influenced more guitarists? Who has the better technique? it’s not gonna be easy but we will find a winner.
