Hello everyone and welcome to another Guitar Duel, a battle of legendary guitarists wits, stamina and skills. These contests provide blood, sweat and tears from our guitar heroes but I’m afraid they have to be done. Well done for everyone who voted on the last guitar duel between Chuck Berry and BB King, it was close at the start but then King started to pull away and he was the winner in the end. Anyway now on to this weeks fascinating encounter between two of the best British guitarists of the 70s and 80s and two guitarists that are still huge today. Both have moved on from the bands that made them famous and both have delved into many different styles. Todays guitarists see us look back at some Jam and a little known Manchester club called Salford Lads Club. So who are these amazing guitarists? I hear you ask. Well its none other than The Modfather himself, Paul Weller and The Smiths’ legendary guitarist, Johnny Marr.

These are considered two of the greatest Guitarists and songwriters that Britain has produced especially over the 70s and 80s. Both come from bands that are cult classics and although Marrs band The Smiths never had much commercial success with singles they released they remain to be followed as much today as they ever were. Wellers first band, The Jam, however were commercially successful having four number ones in the UK singles charts and 18 top 40 hits. So, both great guitarists but who’s better?
Before you decide let me tell you a little more about them.
