Our most favoured guitar idols are often people that inspire us with their musical ability and guitar prowess. Their songs often speak to us and tell us that we should try and pick the guitar up, whether it be to emulate some of our favourites or to start our own band or write our own music with our very own style. But it isn't just the music that inspires us to create our own music, sometimes, when they are not getting wasted, sleeping with groupies or taking drugs, guitarists can say some pretty awe inspiring things.
So what are the best[...]
Hello everyone and welcome to another Guitar Duel, a battle of legendary guitarists wits, stamina and skills. These contests provide blood, sweat and tears from our guitar heroes but I'm afraid they have to be done. Well done for everyone who voted on the last guitar duel between Chuck Berry and BB King, it was close at the start but then King started to pull away and he was the winner in the end. Anyway now on to this weeks fascinating encounter between two of the best British guitarists of the 70s and 80s and two guitarists that are still[...]
Hello everyone and welcome to another weekly riff and this weeks riff is from one of my favourite artists and songwriters. It's also always been a personal favourite riff of mine for a long time. To be honest I don't think I've ever seen an artist reinvent themselves so much. Released in 1974 this song is supposedly Bowie's most covered track which surprised me a little I must say, considering his other amazing hits; Starman, Space Oddity, Heroes, Life On Mars and Changes to name but a few. But this one is the most riff orientated out of those[...]
Hello everybody and welcome to a new feature within the blog... Guitar Duel.
This is going to be a weekly feature where I pit two legendary guitarists against each other and you lot have to vote on who you think is the better guitarist. I must admit some of these choices will be hard to bare, almost like choosing who is the favourite out of your Mother or your Father. So grit your teeth and get ready to make some agonising but amazing choices.
Right, lets get on with the first in the series. This weeks Guitar Duel is going to be[...]
Hello everyone. Hope you are all dandy.
Welcome to another post in the series of riff of the week. This weeks riff is a real beauty.
It is one of the most instantly recognisable riffs ever invented, and shows why Keith Richards was voted 10th best guitarists of all time in Rolling Stone magazines greatest guitarists chart. It signified a breakthrough for the Stones as it was their first record to hit number 1 in both the UK and the US. The song that I am talking about, of course, is (I Can't Get No) Satisfaction.
Apparently it[...]
