Well hello there everyone and welcome to another smashing riff. This weeks riff comes from a band that formed in the late 70's and to be honest a band and guitarist that I have not listened too much. In fact the main reason I have chose this particular riff this week is because I was watching a program the other week called Guitar Heroes At The BBC, and this song was on it. It was then I remembered how good a riff it was. I suppose the reason I have always backed away from this band in the past, is because I'm not really Sting's biggest fan.[...]
Hello everyone and welcome to another weekly riff and this weeks riff is from one of my favourite artists and songwriters. It's also always been a personal favourite riff of mine for a long time. To be honest I don't think I've ever seen an artist reinvent themselves so much. Released in 1974 this song is supposedly Bowie's most covered track which surprised me a little I must say, considering his other amazing hits; Starman, Space Oddity, Heroes, Life On Mars and Changes to name but a few. But this one is the most riff orientated out of those[...]
Hello all, and welcome to another edition in the weekly riff feature and this one's a real classic. From a band inducted in the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame in 2006, this riff is one that every guitarist should know and want to play. Sweet Home Alabama has to be one of the most recognisable riffs in Guitar history, even though Rolling Stone Magazine didn't decide to put it on their top 100 list.
Lynyrd Skynrd formed in 1964 but didnt really enjoy mainstream success until 1973. Sweet Home Alabama was taken from their second album, Second[...]
Hello all, hope you're doing well. Now onto another weekly riff and this week a riff written by someone who was in my top 10 most inspirational guitarists post. This riff comes from a much underrated band and guitarist in my opinion. A band that have never really reached the popularity that they deserve. The band? Supergrass. The guitarist? The one and only Gaz Coombes. The riff? Diamond Hoo Ha Man!
Supergrass formed in 1993 and their first album I Should Coco was released in 1995 with critical acclaim and some quality tunes on it. Even[...]
Hello, and welcome to another weekly riff. Whats with the new name? I hear you ask. Well unfortunately I had to change the old riff of the week name for legal reasons. But be sure that the quality of the content is still going to be the same.
So, onto this weeks riff. I know its another Beatles riff after last week I had I Feel Fine, but I really can't get this song out of my head at the minute and it's a great little riff. In the song the main riff is carried more by the piano, but I think this riff is a great one to learn for a bit of[...]
