Hello everyone and I appreciate that I haven’t posted in a couple of weeks but hopefully today’s post will spark more. This is more like a list of the guitar blogs that I read on the internet, but nonetheless it is still a list of awesome guitar blog thats you must read. I’ve been wanting to do this list for some time now because it’s sort of a thank you to these blogs aswell. This blog wouldn’t have been possible without some on this list showing me that a guitar blog would be a good place to jot down my thoughts. So lets have a look at some of the best guitar blogs on the internet.
1. Guitarhabits
Now this is one amazing guitar site. It seems to me to be rather unique. Unlike other sites which concentrate on gear reviews, interviews and tabulature, guitarhabits focuses on motivational tips and techniques to get you practising and playing more. The author, Klaus Tol doesn’t update tha blog as much as some others on the list but when he does, you can tell that it’s a really well-thought post with lots of idea’s and insight. Klaus is a very knowledgeable guitarist but also believes in knowing the mind as much as knowing the fretboard. He mixes his music theory with different tips and techniques to help people overcome things like songwriters block, practice motivation and even how to design their room to best suit their guitar playing.
Spinal Tap Rating – 10/11
2. Sharemyguitar
Another fantastic guitar site and probably the first one I properly started reading on the web, other than Gibson sites and guitar makers. It’s ran by a Californian guitarist called Mickey Richardson and he has some fantastic idea’s on taking his blog and site forward. I would say that out of all the blogs on the list this has probably the most varied articles ranging from gear reviews, interviews and motivational tips. What makes this blog unique however, is the fact aht it has its very own Social Network. This is where you can upload photo’s and videos, update your status, add your own website and generally just connect with other guitarists. Even though they already have a team of writers, I have guestposted on there before and I know Mickey is always open to new writers, so if you have something to say email Mickey and see if you can get a post on there.
Spinal Tap Rating – 11/11
3. Thepunchin
This site is a blog created by an already established guitar teaching company, TrueFire. They seem to be doing what many big companies in all industries are doing, creating a blog to go side by side with their existing business. The only difference is that they seem to be doing it better than any other company I’ve seen and they really grasp the fact it should be a separate blog. A lot of other companies would push sales for their other product by using their blog to attract customers but TrueFire seem to understand that just writing about different topics in the guitar niche, they don’t have to push sales through. They have many great articles but the thing I like most every time I check my RSS is their little TrueFire Toons. They are little cartoons that they publish on the blog around every week or so and are specifically designed for guitarists. Check them, they’re funny.
Spinal Tap Rating – 9/11
4. Guitarplayerzen
I get extremely excited by this site every time they post. Purely because they know how to write for the online community. I always find myself glued to whatever they post even if its a topic I don’t particularly like. On GuitarPlayerZen they state that they are here to help guitarists find a way to make a career from their guitar. The site is so much deeper than that as they look heavily on the mindset, technique, creativity, awareness of other artists and developing your own unique guitar sound. This is a mindblowing site when they do post, however the only criticism I would give this site is that sometimes they can go without posting on the site for weeks on end and this can be a little frustrating when you’re just itching to read they’re next instalment.
Spinal Tap Rating – 8/11
So there you have it, the very best guitar blogs that the web has to offer. There are of course some others that deserve a mention like TheGuitarColumn, Jemsite, JasonShadrick and TheBluesBlogger. I hope you have enjoyed this list and I hope that one day I will make it onto someone else’s list of good guitar blogs. Feel free to mention any blogs you think I should be reading.

GREAT site! I love everything about guitar…playing, listening, investing, and now with the internet…the advent of online guitar lessons. Boy have things changed.
I just turned 57 years old this year (2011), and remember back in 1965 when I started taking guitar lessons at this funky little guitar shop
in the SE part of Portland, Oregon, USA. Looking back I REALLY wish that I had some pictures of that little shop where I got my start in
guitar. I am sure that my memory is a lot less clear as well as a lot less accurate than a few pictures would be. But then again, taking
pictures back in 1965 was a big thing! Back then you actually had to purchase “film,” take the film out of the sealed foil package, insert it
in your camera, and THEN take pictures; maybe as many as 36 if you purchased the large film pack. THEN you had another step prior to
actually viewing your pictures, you had to take them to a special shop where the film would have to be “developed.” Once the developing was
finished (you know that “dark room” stuff), you could see your pictures…maybe a week after you took them. LOL But I still wish I had gone
through all of that just to have a few pictures (black and white too) of my first guitar shop; the place were I got hooked on guitars.
You would think that guitars, like cameras, were a lot different back then. We we would be wrong. I still have my first two guitars, and
there is VERY little difference in the guitars of the 1960′s, and now in 2011. As a matter of fact, the older a guitar, the more wanted they
become. They sound better, they look cool, and they are truly collectors items. Cameras from the 1960′s might be a collectors items, but I
would argue that they wouldn’t have been as good then as they are now.
Back to my first guitar shop…I’m not sure, but if my memory is working right (and pictures might have helped?); my first guitar lessons
were about $5.00 per hour. And that is when the minimum wage was about $1.00 per hour…YES $1.00 an hour! But to spend $5.00 on guitar
lessons as an 11-year old kid was GREAT!
For now, here is the one tip that my guitar teacher told me that I WISH I had followed to the letter…”Spend just 15 minutes a day on your
guitar, every day of your life, and you will be AMAZED with your progress.” Now just imagine if you spent 15 minutes EVERY day of your life
to improve on your guitar playing. What would the results be?
Well…how about this challenge? I challenge myself to pick up my guitar and work on something, new or old, every single day for just 15
minutes. How about you? Do you want to take on my challenge? Just imagine how incredible we will be 60 days from now? Sixty days, times 15
minutes a day is a WHOPPING FIFTEEN HOURS of practice…WOW.
Are you up for FIFTEEN hours of rehearsal over the coming 60 days? I am!
I would love to have you post on my blog too; it’s at the best online guitar
lessons website.
Peace!
Rich
A guitar is said to be the guitar part that plays the melody, creating instrumental passages filling and guitar solos within a song.Oftentimes guitar lead and rhythm guitar is easily confused with another, especially when guitar starts to add in chords and double stops their riffs
