{ Lick That Riff! }

Well hello there everyone and welcome to another smashing riff. This weeks riff comes from a band that formed in the late 70′s and to be honest a band and guitarist that I have not listened too much. In fact the main reason I have chose this particular riff this week is because I was watching a program the other week called Guitar Heroes At The BBC, and this song was on it. It was then I remembered how good a riff it was. I suppose the reason I have always backed away from this band in the past, is because I’m not really Sting’s biggest fan. He always comes across as slightly arrogant, but lets forget that for this weeks riff. So who are the band? Who’s the guitarist? What’s the riff? Well the band obviously is The Police, the guitarist is a little known Andy Summers and this weeks classic riff is Message In A Bottle.

So The Police are a British rock trio who formed in 1977 with Sting, Andy Summers and Stewart Copeland. They released 5 studio albums before breaking up in 1984. To date they have sold over 50 million albums worldwide. Message In A Bottle was taken from their second studio album entitled, Regatta De Blanc, and it became their first number one single in the United Kingdom. I think it is definitely their best guitar song with Stings writing capabilities shining alongside Summers’ guitar technique. Sting himself has actually been quoted saying that Message In A Bottle was his favourite Police song, but hoe do you play the riff? Well below is the tab
