Hello everyone and welcome to the weekly riff. A feature where I teach you a riff, every week (rocket science, uh) Anyway this weeks riff is one where I’m reliving my British youth and I’m sure a lot of other people out there are too. It comes from one of my top ten most influential guitarists and also, in my opinion, one of the best debut albums ever. They were the biggest band in the UK for some time, and even up until they split last summer they were a commanding force in the music industry. So, who are this band? Whos the Guitarist? Whats the riff? The band as I’m sure many of you have already guessed are the mighty, Oasis. The guitarist is Noel Gallagher and the riff, well its none other than that classic Supersonic riff.

For those of you who don’t know who Oasis are, then here’s a little tiny bio about them. Oasis are a British Rock and Roll band from Manchester who formed in 1991. When they released their debut album, Definitely Maybe, they sparked off a new generation of music within Britain, and a new genre. Along with other bands such as Suede, Blur, Pulp, The Verve, Supergrass and many others they had created the genre called Britpop. Selling more than 50 million albums worldwide (the same as Nirvana) Oasis have planted themselves in Rock and Roll history as one of the truly great bands. Supersonic was the bands debut single taken from Definitely Maybe and even though it was their lowest charting single in the UK it has since been awarded much acclaim. Q Magazine placed it as the 20th greatest Guitar track of all time, and Noel Gallagher has stated that it is his favourite song from the band. So here’s how to play it:

Here’s how it should sound aswell:
So there it is for another weekly riff, and to be honest I can’t believe this is only the first Oasis riff that I’ve done, considering they are probably my favourite band. Oh and above I said that Oasis had split in the summer of 2009, this isn’t strictly true. The band are still together, but this was the time that Noel Gallagher left, and in my eyes that is the death of the band.
Thanks
